About me

Claire Taylor-Jay

Claire was born in 1972 and grew up in the Midlands. After starting to learn the recorder at age 5, she later progressed to flute, oboe and piano. She studied for her undergraduate music degree at Oxford University, while simultaneously having oboe lessons at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has studied oboe with Nicholas Daniel, Irene Pragnell, Helena Gaunt and Helen McQueen.

After gaining her BA (Hons) in Music, Claire did a PhD at the University of Southampton, and has pursued a career in higher education. She has taught at the University of Southampton, Trinity College Dublin, and Roehampton University. She is currently Deputy Head of Music Studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
